Sumario:ABSTRACT Applying numerical modeling to geotechnical engineering problems has become a powerful tool to interpret the behavior of foundations and earthworks. However, not all numerical analyses follow the requirements for the model to be representative of the experimental condition. This work describes the steps required during modeling to determine the appropriate dimensions of the half-space and the respective boundary conditions, as well as the tests appropriate to perform this determination. On the other hand, the results of comparisons between the numerical and the experimental model for a piled raft are shown.
