The following eight species were sighted: Short-beaked Common Dolphin (Delphinus delphis), Long-beaked Common Dolphin (Delphinus capensis), Short- finned Pilot Whale (Globicephala macrorhynchus), Risso&#8217;s Dolphin (Grampus griseus), Dusky Dolphin (Lagenorhynchus obscurus), Southern Right Whale Dolphin (Lissodelphis peronii), Striped Dolphin (Stenella coeruleoalba) and Bottlenose Dolphin (Tursiops truncatus). The distribution of dolphins north of Tocopilla showed relationship with the coastal upwelling front of that area, while off the Mejillones Peninsula the relative abundance and diversity of dolphins was associated with the extensive upwelling plume described for this area. T truncatus was the most frequently sighted species (44.14% 111 herds) and represented 59.6% of the total observed specimens. L. peronii (15.10%) and L.obscurus (8.22%) follows numerically. Other species were represented by <4% of the total observed specimens. The here found species are common to the Peruvian coast. Missing species are Phocoena spinipinnis, a more coastal species than the area covered by the present survey and Pseudorca crassidens, Feresa attenuata, Peponocephala electra and Stenella longirostris, which are from warmer waters and associated with the Paracas area.
