Sumario:This ethnographic case study explores whether and how the Salvadoran alternative newspaper Diario CoLatino incorporated new technologies, specifically online social media, to encourage citizen participation in the media process (in technology) and in a larger discursive sphere (through technology). This study contributes to the literature by including technology as fundamental to the study of alternative media and by expanding our conceptualization of the digital divide to include whether social media are used in "liberating" ways.
