We wanted to know if the teachers include intercultural aspects in the exams and at what level : translation instructions, questions or content. We have analyzed the exams from the “translation” training program at the Translation Institute of the University of Algiers 2 using the grounded theory, after we have classified them into two categories : instructions of translation and questions, and the contents of practical and theoretical courses. We have found out that teachers do not use the contextualized and intercultural instruction but just the formula : “translate the text from a source language ‘A’ to a target language ‘B’”. The questions and the content of the theoretical courses are not related to interculturality, except for the translation history module which includes cultural aspects from different civilizations and eras. In translation courses, interculturality is clearly present in the content of the texts to be translated. We find inter-cultural aspects in the proposed themes, the characters (historical figures, writers, politicians, and the names of characters in a story), place names, names of national and international organizations, religious practices, proverbs, idioms, social and economic contexts, political situations and events.Mohammed Amin BenaribiOpenEditionarticleintercultural competence in translationtranslation instructionstranslation exercisesintercultural in translation examsLanguage and LiteraturePFRMultilinguales, Vol 13 (2020)
