Résumé:What are the traits and traces of memory that filmmakers usually focus on the narratives built on the socio-cultural reality of diasporic populations? Do the film images either work as reflections of diasporic memories or directly participate of the mechanisms of its redemption and of its mise-in-scene in strategic public space? Based on these preliminary questions, and based on their own historicity and generalization of the term "diaspora", we begin with a theoretical  review of  the "diaspora issue" in order to reach  a more extensive and less "essentialist" notion of "diasporic cinema" to examine the strategies and modes of narrative construction in four films whose narrative and thematic content is formed by the diasporic imagination, identity and ancestry, as well as the history of struggles for political affirmation of african-descendants in Brazilian society.
