Summary: | The Corpus Hippocraticum corresponds to the first collection of Greek medical writings in which Hippocratic medicine is found. This collection was framed under the name of Hippocrates of kos, when meeting in the library of Alexandria in the middle or end of the 3rd century BC. C. We find in this collection, that the Hippocratic doctor formulates a diet made up of a set of daily practices as a treatment for the disease, as well as for the preservation of health. In this study, some Corpus works linked to dietetics are analyzed and an attempt is made to display that in ancient times, diet (díaita) as it consisted of food (sîta), drinks (potá) and exercises (pónoi) which are practices that run through the daily life of humankind, express a life choice that emerges from the awareness of health as something that must be taken care of and works as a synonym of balance.
