Description
Summary:The Role of Translator in Different Literary Periods (Russian Perspectives) The article discusses various roles of translators in tsarist Russia and in the Soviet Union; attention is paid to the translators’ role as copyists, diplomats or censors, as well as their contribution to state-building, culture and education. The author concludes that both in tsarist Russia and in the Soviet Union translators were most typically seen as citizens and spiritual leaders of their nation, which makes them similar to poets or novelists, who were actively involved in and strongly resonated with their nation’s current needs.
