Description
Résumé:Based on an ethnography on the practices and representations of health and disease in the Wounaan Amerindian society of the Colombian Pacific coast, we intend to determine the intercultural approach developed throughout the years 2008 to 2012 by health institutions, and regional and local government in the City of Buenaventura.Unable to introduce substantial modifications according to the expectations of this indigenous society, institutional planners and public officers explain the difficulties in the implementation of their programs or biomedical interventions according to the native populations of an unthinkable predilection for shaman therapy and its modalities of "traditional" disease treatment. A choice motivated by tradition and its beliefs that for us dismiss the complexity of selection between the local and exogenous offer of the western medicine in ethnic contexts. To the extent that the constant risks of the Wounan person are illness and misfortune, as health is strictly his epiphenomenon, the therapeutic offer must be shown as a permanent resource that can only be emulated as a domestic and intimate service, deeply opposed to the intermittent provision of public health services in the region.
